Wenn mich Leute fragen, wie es ist, Projektmanagementleiter bei Koenig & Bauer Durst zu sein, lächle ich oft und sage: „Kein Tag gleicht dem anderen.“
Bei Koenig & Bauer Durst steht der Erfolg unserer Kunden an erster Stelle. Wir möchten sicherstellen, dass unsere Systeme zuverlässige und profitable Leistung erbringen.
1. Installation, Support und Optimierung in ganz Europa
Meine Tätigkeit führt mich durch ganz Europa, von Deutschland über Spanien bis nach England, wo ich Seite an Seite mit Kunden arbeite, um unsere Delta SPC 130-Maschinen zu installieren und zu warten.
Aber die Arbeit endet nicht mit der Installation. Ich kehre Monate später zu den Kunden zurück, um sie zu beobachten, zu beraten und ihnen zu helfen, das Beste aus ihren Maschinen herauszuholen.
Dank meines Hintergrunds in Mechatronik und Automatisierung fallen mir oft Details auf, die andere übersehen würden. Diese Ausbildung hilft mir, subtile Probleme in der Produktion zu erkennen – Dinge, die den Unterschied zwischen Frustration und einwandfreier Leistung ausmachen können.
Ich verbringe einen ganzen Tag beim Kunden, beobachte, überprüfe jede Komponente und arbeite mit Drittanbietern zusammen, um die Leistung zu verbessern. Manchmal bedeutet dies stundenlange Feinabstimmungen, gefolgt von detaillierten Berichten und Schulungen, um sicherzustellen, dass das Team des Kunden sich sicher fühlt.
2. Herausforderungen in Kundenerfolge verwandeln
Einer der lohnendsten Aspekte meiner Arbeit ist es, Herausforderungen in Erfolgsgeschichten zu verwandeln.
Ich habe Kunden gesehen, die den Tag wütend begonnen haben, weil ihre Geräte nicht richtig funktionierten – und ihn dann erleichtert und glücklich beendet haben, nachdem wir das Problem gemeinsam gelöst hatten.
Drittanbieter bringen oft komplexe Fehlerbehebungssysteme mit, und ich arbeite eng mit ihnen zusammen, um Verbesserungen zu integrieren. Zu sehen, wie die Produktionslinie des Kunden danach reibungslos läuft, ist immer sehr befriedigend.
Für mich ist Stille Gold wert: Wenn ich nichts von einem Kunden höre, bedeutet das, dass die Maschine einwandfrei läuft. Das ist das ultimative Ziel.
Allein im letzten Jahr habe ich 11 bis 12 Wochen im Ausland verbracht, um Kunden zu unterstützen. Jedes Land bringt neue Herausforderungen, neue Kulturen und neue Lernmöglichkeiten mit sich, darunter auch die Verbesserung meiner Englischkenntnisse.
Es ist eine anspruchsvolle Arbeit, aber wenn Kunden Erfolg haben, sind die Erleichterung und Freude in ihren Gesichtern die Mühe wert.

Demand for folding carton packaging is being defined by major economic shifts including GDP growth, household consumption expenditure, population trends, and urbanisation.
Addressing the impact of this future growth is the European Union’s Packaging and Packaging Waste Regulation (PPWR), which aims to reduce packaging waste, promote reuse and mechanical recycling, and establish clear circularity standards across all materials, including folding cartons.
Its key objectives that impact folding carton printers are the reduction of packaging waste by minimising unnecessary materials, promoting recyclability and design for circularity, restrictions on certain materials and composite structures and increased transparency and documentation (e.g., proof of recyclability, traceability). It also sets reusable and refillable packaging targets.

The topic was explored at the European Carton Makers Association Congress in Istanbul in October, which was also a strong reminder of the role collaboration plays in shaping the future of folding cartons. Es ist ein Privileg, Teil des Teams zu sein und die Weiterentwicklung der VariJET 106 voranzutreiben. Wir verbessern die Druckqualität kontinuierlich und erzielen so die hervorragenden Ergebnisse, die wir heute konstant erreichen.
Einer der unbestreitbaren Vorteile im Bereich Faltschachteln gegenüber Wettbewerbern – wie beispielsweise Landa – ist die Möglichkeit, mit VariJET direkt auf ungestrichene Materialien zu drucken.
Dadurch können wir deutlich mehr Farbe auf das Blatt aufbringen, was beim Bedrucken ungestrichener Materialien unerlässlich ist. Das Ergebnis: Der Druck auf ungestrichenen Materialien wirkt mit der VariJET besonders brillant.
Das Erscheinungsbild auf ungestrichenen Materialien ist sehr gut. Die Papierstruktur bleibt erhalten, dennoch lässt sich eine sehr hohe Farbdeckung und somit eine wunderschöne, satte Farbe erzielen. Dank des guten Farbflusses ist das Material zudem unempfindlich gegenüber Düsenfehlstellen und ungleichmäßigem Druck.
Letztendlich, obwohl ich nur Drucker bin, sehe ich, dass die VariJET Kunden neue Möglichkeiten eröffnet, beispielsweise eine Oberfläche mit einer besonderen Optik. Gerade in Zeiten, in denen umweltfreundliche Verpackungen im Trend liegen, ermöglicht dies, sich von anderen Anbietern abzuheben.
Erst kürzlich besuchte uns ein Kunde, der fast ausschließlich auf ungestrichenen Materialien druckt, in unserem Kunden-Demo-Center in Radebeul und war von den Ergebnissen begeistert.
Er meinte sogar, er habe so etwas schon lange nicht mehr gesehen!
Die Entwicklung der VariJET wird fortgesetzt, mit der Forschung an noch besseren Tinten und der Optimierung des Bogentransports.
Ich freue mich sehr, Teil dieser einzigartigen Zusammenarbeit zwischen Durst und Koenig & Bauer zu sein, zwei marktführenden Unternehmen der Druck- und Verpackungsindustrie.

Thailand’s printing industry is thriving, with numerous brand owners serving both domestic and export markets. We’re excited to meet in person at Pack Print International in Bangkok, 17-20 September!

In a fast-moving world where the only constant is change, here’s a sneak preview of a new product we’re officially unveiling this autumn.
And why specifically Koenig & Bauer Durst’s LinkedIn platform? Well, in addition to being asked to provide input for this blog, the VariJET 106 is of huge interest for this new protection product called ‘Aegis’.
Brands producing luxury goods and otherwise exposed – for example, pharmaceuticals, tobacco or confectionery – are wary of fraud or counterfeiting issues and need to assure their customers of the integrity and traceability of high-value purchases.
The Koenig & Bauer Vision & Protection industry-recognised protection technology is called Stegano, which ensures products are protected by hidden data. My colleague, Marc Hunsänger, provided an insight here.
Now we’ve taken this a step further with our ‘Aegis Protect’ that will be officially unveiled in September, which will include a series of high-profile roadshows in the UK, Europe and North America.
In essence, Aegis Protect is an easy-to-apply varnish protection. Every varnish provides added value, is not recognisable but is optically readable and has the security features integrated, not added.
It secures like a vault but without any visible lock. Decoding is carried out by verification checks with the open platform ava (a verification app), which is technology agnostic and multi-factor ready.
We’re already working with some of the Koenig & Bauer Durst customers who need to enhance security for their own clients.
We see Aegis Protect as being extremely important for the VariJET 106 – and can help sales.
And one of the spin-off benefits is that the amount of varnish required for jobs is significantly reduced because, with Aegis, there is raster manipulation.
